Kids toys
Wednesday, December 24th, 2008As we rapidly come to the holiday season many people are not sure what to choose for kids. The childrens toy sector is massive, with the characterless big barn toy outlets accounting for a large part of all sales. It’s definately a far cry from the charming traditional toy shops found on the high street 50 years ago and so is the volume of toys available.
Many of toys that are made today come from China. Because of marketing strategy companies that market cheap plastic toys became a hit. The were targeting people who were looking for bargains, and not necessarily quality. This was the cost advantage that China gave and many major companies shifted the whole of their production lines to Chinese factories. Some toy manufacturers did not have strict quality controls, as Mattel found out in 2007. More than three million toys were recalled around the world. Parents are looking to find more traditional toys for their kids, this has been a trend we have been seeing because of toys that are poorly manufactured, poor quality, and an increasing number of recalls. Quality wooden toys have grown in popularity, and as a consequence there are now more independent toy sellers than before. Toys crafted out of wood are becoming more and more popular because they are well-made, last a long time, and are made with renewable resources. With today’s economy causing manufacturing production problems, a traditional wooden toy may be a great choice in these economic times. Parents like that they have bought a well constructed toy for their child that will give many years of use thus providing great value for money spent.
When shopping for Christmas gifts you will do better for your kids and your money if you buy from a local toy shop that sells quality toys instead of junk that will break in an hour.
